The Tap Wood sugaring operation is located in Edenton, Ohio near Stonelick State Park on 109 acres of woods and fields. The property was once transited by the Cincinnati, Milford & Blanchester Traction Company (CM&B). The CM&B was a trolley car line or more accurately an interurban railway owned by the Kroger Family.

An interurban railway took the technology of the city trolley car and transferred it to longer distance travel. A passenger could ride the trolley from Hyde Park all the way to Blanchester. The section that runs through the farm was constructed in 1906 and abandoned in 1922.

Sap from the Sugar Maple

The farm was purchased by a small group of Cincinnati families for hunting and fishing purposes in the 1980’s. About every twenty five years the land is logged for walnut, oak, hard maple and ash.

Six years ago we had a forester from the state of Ohio come out and inspect the property and he noted that we had a lovely stand of sugar maples on property. I googled “sugar maple” and it referenced that one can make maple syrup from the sap of sugar maple trees. This was the start of what has been a wonderful journey for our family.
